Umpqua Lighthouse State Park

Deluxe Yurt near Reedsport, OR

Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is located near Reedsport, Oregon set back off the main road, perched up in the hillside overlooking Lake Marie. It is a smaller campground that offers all kinds of sites including deluxe yurts and cabins with a lake view. Getting there can be slightly tricky but once you're there you’re sure to fall in love with this park!

Directions:

My navigator took me the wrong way into the sand dunes so, here are some tips to avoid any confusion. If coming from the North I would recommend putting Umpqua River Lighthouse into your navigator instead of the actual park, then once you’ve made it to the lighthouse it’s just up the road to the right. If coming from the South just keep your eyes peeled for the state park signs as you get close. If you reach the dead end at the dunes you’ve gone too far.

Deluxe Yurt #17

Accommodations:

The park offers all the regular campsite options as well as deluxe Yurts and Cabins. We opted for the deluxe yurt which included a refrigerator, sink, full bathroom, two futons, a bunk bed, a tv, as well as an electric grill on the porch. This yurt was huge and we had plenty of space with a party of 7. The yurts have a covered deck with a wooden bench that overlooks the lake as well as a picnic bench and fire pit.

Lake Marie Trail

Things to do:

You can take the 1 mile Lake Marie Loop Trail around the lake for some beautiful scenery and wildlife viewing. There are access points to the lake all throughout the trail. The trailhead can be accessed at the Lake Marie day use area or if you’re staying at the campground you can access the trail from the main path in your campground loop. This is a perfect lake to kayak, not too big but enough to explore and the wind is minimal as the lake is set deep in the trees and shielded from the coastal breeze. There were lots of berries and fungi and the park had signage up telling you about the different berries and trees throughout the park. There is no beach access directly connected to the park, however there is a beach and pier just a short drive (maybe 3 minutes) from the park. This park is one of my favorites- it’s peaceful, beautiful, and there’s plenty to do in any season. I highly recommend stopping at the lighthouse for some trinkets, chowder, and treats!
